BELIEFS OF THE BRUEN CHAPEL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH IN FAIRFAX
![]()
We believe that there is only one living and true God, everlasting, without body or parts, of infinite power, wisdom, and goodness: the maker and preserver of all things, both visible and invisible and in this Godhead there are three persons, of one substance, power and eternity--the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit.
We believe in God our Creator and Father, in Jesus Christ our Savior, and in the Holy Spirit, our Guide and Guard.
We believe that the reign of God is both a present and future reality. We recognize the authority of Scripture and affirm the unity of the universal church in Jesus Christ.
We strive to be faithful stewards of all that has been committed to us by God the Creator.
We work to bring all persons into a community of love.
We yearn to become new creatures in Christ and to mirror God's love in our dealing with each other and the earth on which we live.
We believe that grace pervades our understanding of Christian faith and life. By grace we mean the undeserved, unmerited, and loving action of God in human existence through the ever-present Holy Spirit.
We are grateful for God's forgiving love, in which we live and by which we are judged, and affirm our belief in the inestimable worth of each individual.
We are committed to being faithful witnesses to the gospel, not alone to the ends of the earth, but also to the depths of common life and work.
We believe that the church provides the best possibility for nurturing human beings into the fullness of their humanity. We believe we have the responsibility to innovate, sponsor, and evaluate new forms of community that will encourage development of the fullest potential in individuals. Primary for us is the gospel understanding that all persons are important -- because they are human beings created by God and loved through and by Jesus Christ.
