“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” — First Amendment, U.S. Constitution.

“Just then a lawyer stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he said, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus said to him, “What is written in the law? What do you read there?” He answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” And Jesus said to him, “You have given the right answer. Do this and you shall live.”

How may we Christians who are US citizens follow Jesus and also live in a way that respects our country’s constitution?

Who is our neighbor? What is involved in being a good neighbor to others, including those who may not be professing Christians?

How do we honor the dead? What is necessary? What is sufficient? Is there a reasonable time limit for honoring such at any given place — such as a civil war battlefield in Virginia, or an ancient Native American burial ground, or “Ground Zero” in NYC?

How large a “peace perimeter” should there be around any spot of hallowed ground? Who decides the extent of the perimeter and what is appropriate or not appropriate within it?

Summer Worship - 10 am - through August 29. Fall Schedule Resumes Soon

During the summer, Sunday morning worship has been scheduled for 10 am.

In September we will resume our “regular” school year schedule.

September 5 - Worship at 11 am.
Sunday School for Adults - 9:30 am

September 12 - Worship at 11 am
Sunday School for Adults and Youth- 9:30 am
Sunday School for Children - 10:00 am

**September 19 - “Rally Day” Emphasis. After 11 am worship, we will have an “indoor” barbecue picnic. Old friends and new invited, including anybody from the community who wants to come.

Our ministries include churches in all kinds of neighborhoods and communities in the United States, as well as in Central and South America, Africa, Asia, and Europe. We also support community centers, environmental projects, hospitals, schools, and colleges, as well as a major disaster relief organization called UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief). United Methodists in churches around the world provide basic support for their ministry and mission endeavors through a “World Service Apportionment”. This benevolence has been called “the primary mission responsibility” of every United Methodist Church.
